How it works
The formula
Wing size ≈ rider weight (kg) ÷ wind (knots), multiplied by 1.12 for beginners, 1.0 for intermediates and 0.9 for advanced riders, limited to 2–7 m and rounded to 0.5 m. Parawing size is about 85% of the wing size (3–6 m). Foil-board volume is body weight plus 60 L (beginner), 30 L (intermediate) or 5 L (advanced).
These are guidelines for planning a retail range — see the full wing size chart and parawing size guide.
How do I calculate wing foil wing size?
A practical rule of thumb is wing size (m²) ≈ rider weight (kg) ÷ wind speed (knots), adjusted about +10% for beginners and −10% for advanced riders, then rounded to the nearest 0.5 m.
What size parawing do I need?
Parawings are usually about 15% smaller than the inflatable wing you would use in the same conditions. A 4 m parawing is the most common all-round size.
What foil board volume should I choose?
Beginners typically ride rider weight + 40–60 litres, intermediates weight + 20–40 litres and advanced riders around their body weight in litres.
