For most riders a 4 m parawing is the best all-round size. Lighter riders (under ~70 kg) and strong-wind spots suit 3 m; heavier riders (85 kg+) or lighter wind suit 5 m, and 6 m is a light-wind or heavy-rider size. Parawings are for riders who can already foil.
What is a parawing?
A parawing is a soft, single-skin or ram-air wing flown on a short bridle with a handle bar. It has no inflatable leading edge or strut, so it packs down to the size of a waist bag. Riders use it to get up on the foil, then fly it, depower it or stow it while they pump and glide on swell. That makes parawings especially popular for downwind foiling.
Parawing size chart
Use this chart as a starting point. Board volume, foil size and rider skill shift the numbers, so treat it as a guideline rather than a rule.
| Rider weight | Strong wind (20+ kn) | Medium wind (14–20 kn) | Light wind (10–14 kn) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 65 kg | 3 m | 3–4 m | 4 m |
| 65–80 kg | 3 m | 4 m | 5 m |
| 80–95 kg | 3–4 m | 4–5 m | 5–6 m |
| 95 kg + | 4 m | 5 m | 6 m |
How retailers should build a parawing range
If you are adding parawings to a store, start with the size that sells most — 4 m — then add 3 m and 5 m. A 6 m makes sense for regions with lighter average wind or a heavier customer base. Stock replacement bars and line sets, because they are the most common after-sales request.
Material choice
- Lightweight canopy: lowest weight and smallest pack size; ideal for performance downwinders.
- Durable nylon canopy: more abrasion-resistant and economical; ideal for schools and value ranges.
Fitting tips for riders
- Learn to wing foil confidently before switching to a parawing.
- Use a larger, early-lift foil while learning to fly the parawing.
- Practise depowering and stowing on flat water before going downwind.
- Always ride downwinders with a buddy and a plan for the finish point.

Frequently asked questions
Can a beginner learn on a parawing?
It is not recommended. A parawing is best for riders who can already ride a foil and handle an inflatable wing.
Is a bigger parawing always better in light wind?
Bigger sizes generate more power, but they are slower to handle and heavier on the arms. Match the size to your weight and foil.
Do parawings come with a bar?
Yes, our parawings are supplied with a control bar and bridle, plus a carry bag.
